Do I have to drill holes in my guitar to put the EZ-Mount on?
No! No holes, no routing, no carving, NO NOTHING!
Should I have a guitar tech install it?
Only if you're not comfortable working on a guitar. The installation is easy, though, and takes about 10 minutes!
Will this addition increase the value of my guitar?
Yes, by at least what the EZ-Mount system cost, maybe more? More importantly, you won't have to drill holes in your guitar that may de-value it!!
What happens to the grounded bridge?
On stop-tail bridges sometimes the bridge or tail piece is grounded. The EZ-Mount system utilizes this grounding by using the existing screw and bolt holes. Conventionally mounted Bigsby's don't - creating crackle and static noises.
What is dampening?
When down-force(bridge) meets up-force(stop-bar tailpiece or conventionally mounted Bigsby) volume, tone, sustain and acoustic sound quality are diminished (dampened) by these opposing forces in the guitar body.
Do you sell the EZ-Mount without the Bigsby?
Yes, beginning April 1st., we will offer our EZ-Mount kits without the Bigsby, for those who already have one. The kit will include all the hardware needed, including a roller bridge for your guitar model. We have decided to provide our kits without the Bigsby because we had so many requests for it that way!
Do you make kits for carved top Les Paul Gibsons?
Yes, when we state EZ-Mount kits for Les Pauls "standards", etc. we mean carved top models. Models for SG's and Les Paul Juniors will be for flat top guitars.
Can I do deep bends with the EZ-Mount Bigsby?
Well, NO! If you want to do heavy metal deep whammy bends, you need another style vibrato like the Fender or Floyd Rose style. The Bigsby has limited range but creates a beautiful sound. That's why it's the most sought after!
What's the difference between a B-5 and B-50 Bigsby?
The B-50 Bigsby is the import version of the B-5 and we believe it's better made with a better finish! It also is less expensive and therefore a better value!
Will the screws pull out of the EZ-Mount plate?
NO- the EZ-Mount plates are 1/8" thick steel or aluminum and we use stainless steel fasteners. Where conventionally mounted Bigsbys have pulled out of the guitar this will never happen with the EZ-Mount!
Can I take this plate off of one guitar and put it on another?
Yes, as long as it's the same model, Les Paul to Les Paul, etc. There will be no residual damage to the guitar! Remember to always save your original guitar parts!
Is there padding under the mount plate to protect the guitar's finish?
Yes, but it's not needed. Our EZ-Mounts only contact the guitar's body at 3 locations - usually at the screw and bolt holes - and are designed to clear the guitar's body everywhere else. This is part of our patented design!
Is there an improvement in string angle over the bridge on Les Pauls because the stock Bigsby causes too steep an angle and hard playing action?
Yes, the over the bridge string angle is vastly improved. It now more closely matches a jazz guitar with a trapeze style tail piece. You can hear the improved acoustic sound quality in your guitar. Also, the Bigsby's playing action is much easier and smoother.
How can it sound better than a stock mounted Bigsby?
The stock method of mounting a Bigsby is to attach it to the face of the guitar with screws. The string angle then goes over the bridge and sharply down to the Bigsby pulling up on it(dampening) the guitar's sound. When down pressure(bridge) and up-pressure(Bigsby) meet the result is loss of volume, sustain and a thinner sound. By using our patent-pending 100% down-force EZ-Mount system all of the string energy is channeled into the guitar with no opposing forces. This creates much greater sustain, tone and a more beautiful acoustic sound. The Bigsby is also much easier to play because of the improved string angle over the bridge.
